Anarcho capitalism Flashcards
1
Q
Why do anarcho capitalists argue for the dismantling of the state?
A
- They believe that the state is exploitive through its use of taxation, violating property of the individual
- Advocate that all services currently provided by governments such as policing, courts and roads, would be handed over to the free market. Competition will give consumers choice, forcing the suppliers to be efficient, cost effective and more likely to reflect consumers needs
2
Q
What is the core principle of anarcho capitalism?
A
- The belief in the invisible hand of the free market and private property so the profit motive and wage system would still remain.
- Does not include equality
- Criticised as only the rich and powerful will be free and they will be free to protect their own privileges through private protection bodies and resolving disputes through private courts that would only serve those who paid the most

Q
Who is the best example of anarcho capitalism?
A
- Murray Rothbard concluded that in order to believe in laissez faire one must also embrace anarchism.
- Man, Economy and the State (1962) argued that economic freedom was a fundamental value in every way threatened by the power of the state. Believed that greed was good because the pursuit of one’s self interest was both natural and good for economic growth
