SOCIETY Flashcards
PARAGRAPH ONE
DISAGREEMENT OVER ELIMINATION OF CLASS
- revsoc believe that class divisions are inevitable under capitalism and must be abolished. MARX says only establishment of a classless society can eliminate inequality
- social dems believe they can be reduced (not abolished) through social policies. CROSLAND argues that a mixed economy with strong welfare systems can create an equal society without revolution
- HOWEVER both aim to address and reduce class inequality
- BUT marx insists on class abolition, crosland just wants to mitigate its effects
PARAGRAPH TWO
DISAGREEMENT OVER ROLE OF CAPITALISM
- revsoc say that it is inherently exploitative and must be overthrown. LUX says it perpetuates class conflict and inequality
- third way believe it is the most effective system for generating wealth but must be regulated. GIDDENS says it can coexist with social justice if paired with welfare policies
- HOWEVER agree that capitalism creates social problems
- BUT lux seems it as irredeemable, giddens believes reform can benefit society
PARAGRAPH THREE
AGREEMENT OVER OPPOSITION TO INEQUALITY
- agree on reduction of inequality
- MARX says it is a direct result of capitalist exploitation and wants to eliminate it
- CROSLAND also wants to eliminate it and believes issues come from capitalism
- HOWEVER disagree over extend of what we need to do to fix capitalism
- BUT share commitment to creating more equal society
