DISAGREEMENT OVER STATE.
- rev soc want overthrow of capitalist state and eventual abolition. MARX emphasises dictatorship of proletariat then wither away
- social dems view state as key tool for reforming capitalism and promoting social justice. CROSLAND says state should regulate to reduce inequality
- HOWEVER agree that state is a necessary tool in the short term to achieve socialist goals
- BUT LUXEMBURG a revsoc disagrees with MARX on centralised leadership favouring spontaneous action
PARAGRAPH TWO
DISAGREEMENT OVER HUMAN NATURE
- revsoc believe humans are naturally cooperative but tainted by capitalism. MARX alienation theory, social transformation necessary
- social dems believe HN is not entirely corrupted. CROSLAND in the future of socialism believes self interest can be balanced with commitment to equality within capitalist system
- HOWEVER agree that HN is capable of cooperation and solidarity, rejects self interest theory
- BUT third way GIDDENS believe this is adaptable enough to thrive under a mixed economy
PARAGRAPH THREE
AGREEMENTS OVER SOCIETY
- agree on need to create a fairer more equal society, all critique capitalism for creating inequality
- MARX wants to eliminate all class divisions
- GIDDENS balances market efficient with social justice to ensure equality of opportunity
- CROSLAND argued for wealth redistribution and education reform
- HOWEVER tensions over how society should be reshaped
- BUT all share commitment to address poverty and workers rights
