Q

social sensitive research in social classic study

A

Sherif’s research studied the rise of conflict between two conflicting groups which could justify and perpetuate prejudice.

This could be considered socially sensitive as racist, sexist, and homophobic people may use RCT or SIT as an excuse for their prejudicial views which could lead to discrimination and harm for individuals of a particular race, gender, or sexuality.

Q

social sensitive research in biological classic study

A

Raine went against the view that crime was a result of social and environmental factors, rather than a result of biological and individual differences.

His research is socially sensitive because it suggests a physical marker (e.g. small amygdala) can be identified so it might be possible to screen the population and identify future criminals. It may ruin a person’s life if they were to find out their were predisposed to committing crimes down to their biology.

His findings on the NGRI prisoners can be used to claim the individuals are not responsible for their crimes which can be socially sensitive to the family of the victims.

This could cause armed forces to exploit these theories to make their soldiers more aggressive.

Legal systems are based upon criminal activity being an act of free will, the implication for legal processes of these being ‘nature’ would be to change the perception of guilt.

A

Little Albert was heavily subjected to traumatic procedures as a baby and the result of conditioning of his phobia may have caused distress and concern for his mother even though she had consented.

His mother took him out of the experiment to hospital before they could start to un-condition his fear.

Q

social sensitive research in clinical classic study

A

Rosenhan found that real patients were subjected to depersonalisation in hospitals which positively influence mental health practices.

However, findings of Rosenhan would have been detrimental to staff, clinicians and hospital themselves, possibly causing distress and feelings of incompetence.

Rosenhan found that sane people who were at hospital with a basic symptom of SZ were put on medication. This diagnosis led to labelling as although ppl’s behaved normally, the staff treated them as mentally ill. Research is socially sensitive because it shows that staff in a mental hospital can’t distinguish sane from the insane.
