- Human nature is malliable and can be adjusted as long as men and women are fulfilling their fraternal role and contributing to a cooperative community

- Wealth without a strong ststae would be impossible to bring around a fair society
- Marxists and orthodox communists say the state will ‘wiither away’, a blissful moment in human evolution
- no absolute authority in one person (monarchal), no state based on religion and no hereditary classes

- Opposite to liberals, see individuals as a product of the society they were born into
- Sceptical that humans can be masters of their own destiny as society can hinder this.
- believes in social justice - needs to be an equality of outcome
Socialists on the Economy (2)
- An economic System based upon private property and capitalism can be hugely problematic
- ‘Redistributionist’ economy - emphaisis on progressing public spending, high tax and extensive publice service
