Purpose of Jamestown
The Virginia company of London got a charter and made it for money. Settlers came to become

The Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower ship landed outside Virginia boundaries therefore they were not governed by anyone. Pilgrims created and made the mayflower compact(a set of laws) that both pilgrims and non pilgrims(strangers) signed. →precedent for future government first time settler work together for success
