Magna Carta
Known as the GReat Charter which limited the Kings power. First written the constitution and said that everyone is subjected to the law. It also included the right of the nobles to have a say in taxation.
Parliament
Made up the upper house and elected lower - has to approve taxes before king imposes them

A list of rights the government promises to protect
The Protestant Reformation - causes & effects on the development of the colonies
Martin Luther a monk split from the church of England and opposed the catholic teachings his followers are called protestants →separated europe = when europeans moved to new world european powers fought over land. Ex: English raided spanish colonies
Geography (New England)
Rocky soil made it hard for farming but native americans helped on the coast soil was fertile soil really good at farming
Economy
Small farms, fishing, lumber, shipbuilding, whaling
Purpose
Safe place for people to practice their religion freely.
Slavery
“Servants didn;t have many slaves but they did have some. started getting rid of slaves during revolution
Religion
Puritanism in Massachusetts did not want to separate from church.
Rhode Island left because they wanted separation from church and state (did have a bit of religious tolerance)
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut
Limited the power to get the government and allied people to vote without any church requirements but had to own property. → separated government from church and gave government less power
