What happened to Henry Clay?
The first time the public voted Jackson got the most popular votes and the most electoral votes. Unfortunately, he did not receive over half of the electoral votes. Therefore, the House of Representatives must decide the winner. But only the top three candidates with the most electoral votes could continue, this meant Clay was out of the race.

What was the corrupt bargain?
Clay had come in fourth place, therefore eliminated from the election. He supported John Quincy Adams the most out of all the other candidates and told his supporters to vote for him. Due to Clay’s support, Adams won the election and elected Clay to be his Secretary of State.
How was the Democratic Party created?
After the corrupt bargain Jackson’s supporters felt that they had lost their way and formed a new political party called the Democrats. They promised revenge in 1828

Why did Jackson win the 1828 election?
That was the first time in American history that the common man could vote. The common man did not include blacks, native americans, or women.
Why was Jackson know as Old Hickory?
Because he had defended New Orleans very well during the war of 1812
What is the spoil system?
Opponents of Jackson were appalled when Jackson rewarded his political supporters with government jobs and referred to this as the spoil system.

Most of the people in office during Jacksons presidency were Republicans so Jackson didn’t trust them. He would meet with trusted friends and political supporters in the kitchen of the White House.
