Social Psych Test Flashcards
Social Psychology
The study of your mind and behavior with other people
Attribution Theory
How we explain someone’s behavior by saying it is either the situation or their disposition
Fundamental Attribution Error
we overestimate disposition and underestimate situation
ex. - assuming a coworker is late to work is simply lazy rather than thinking they got stuck in traffic
Peripheral Route Persuasion
incidental cues (attractiveness of a speaker)
Central Route Persuasion
interested people focus on the arguments
Foot-in-the-door Phenomenon
tendency for people who first agreed to do a smaller task to comply with a larger one
Cognitive Dissonance
we bring our thoughts in line with our actions to avoid discomfort
ex. - you have been dating someone for 3 years and they get a promotion in a small town in Maine 5 hours away
Conformity
made to feel insecure, admire group’s status, group is unanimous
Solomon Asch
