Q

How can Tajfel’s Social Identity Theory be applied to explain this KQ?

A

SIT suggests that individuals derive a sense of self from their group membership. Terrorists may believe they are in the in-group and anyone else who disagrees is the out-group. Assertion of group’s identity against perceived threats. By identifying with one group they start to take on the identity of the group. In-group favouritism.

Q

How can Milgram’s Agency Theory be applied to explain this KQ?

A

Terrorists may be following a leader in a position of authority who may make them obey their commands. Terrorists are therefore obeying the leaders’ authority as they are in the agentic state. Attackers may see themselves as agents of an ideological/political movement.
