- believe the policies made are good for all of society and family.
- Fletcher, argues that the intro of housing, education and health policies have led to developmment of the welfare state. which means family performs their functions better.

- feminist critisise bcos functionalists assume that policies benefit all members of family equally when it only benefits the men.
- assumes march of progress but marxists say that policies such as cutting welfare benefits may put families at disadvantage.

- He argues that professionals such as social workers and doctor use their knowledge to control, shape and change families.
- its not carried out equally,- poor families are seen as “problem fams” and cause of crimes and anti social behaviour.
- Condry, says that state seek to control and shape family life by using parental orders.
- he rejects functionalists march of progress view and that social policies have improvoed society and that it only controls family.
