Aim- to stengthen the traditional nuclear family
e.g married men tax allowance
1997 to 2010 new labour policies
Aim - Ordering parents to take reponsibility of their children and some support for alternative family types
e.g longer maternity leave, the new deal
New right view
The nuclear family is self sufficient, so the introduction of policies has had a negative effect by encouraging different family types
Feminist view
Social policies enable patriarchy by encouraging the traditional nuclear family
Marxist view
Family policy is a way for the ruling class to maintain the capitalist control of society by ensuring the family continue to support capitalism
