Childbearing Flashcards
Contraception
The introduction of contraception allows women to have choice if and when they want to have children
Education
Children are now seen as an economic burden, as they now have to stay in compulsory education until 18 rather then working
Role of women
Many women now want to have a career of their own rather then relying on husbands. Therefore they may prioritise their career over having children
Impact : reduction in labour force
When less people are born, there are gaps in the labour force
Impact : dependency ratio
The ratio of those in work and those out of work (due to retirement) becomes uneven
Impact: beanpole family
There is a growth in the beanpole family, where people are living longer but having less children
