Social Learning Theory Flashcards
Social Learning Theory
2
Explains some behaviour which hasn’t been conditioned.
Looks at how we learn by observing other people
4 Steps of SLT
1 - Attention
2 - Retention (remembering what model did)
3 - Reproduction
4 - Motivation (Often need a reward)
SODA
Strengths
Supported by Bandura (1961, 1963a, 1965). Aggression was imitated when done by a ‘role model’. 26% for boys in 1961 study
Applied alongside therapies such as Systematic Desensitisation. Seeing someone they trust approach the phobia and have no consequences etc.
Weaknesses
Most supporting research is done on children, issues generalising to adults. Not scientific and is only observed
Genetic factors also important. Kendler (2015) showed that identical twins more identical in their aggression than non-identical.
