social learning theory Flashcards
name the main man for SLT
-Bandura
explain vicarious reinforcement
-for indirect learning to take place induvidual must observe behaviour from others, learner imitates if behavior was seen to be rewarded and then they observe the consequences
explain the mediational processes
ARMS= mental factors involved in learning attention retention motor reproduction skills
explain the 4 steps of mediational processes
- attention- the extent the learner notices behaviour
- retention- how well behaviour is remembered
- motor repro- ability of observer to reproduce
- skills- ability to perform depending on situation
explain the role of identification?
people ESPECIALLY CHILDREN are more likely to imitate behavior of people they identify as role models.
what are the 3 evaluation points?
- importance of cognitive factors
- demand characteristics
- underestimates influence of biological factors
evaluate importance of cognitive factors
STRENGTH
- animals+humans store info and make judgements on whether to perform certain actions
- not just passive responders to environment
- SLT provides a comprehensive explanation of human learning through meditational processes
evaluate demand characteristics
WEAKNESS
- artificial stimuli=demand characteristics
- bobo doll was created to be hit therefore kids his it
- they behaved the way they thought they should
- tells little about how children learn aggression
evaluate underestimates influence of biological factors
WEAKNESS
- little reference to bio factors
- boys more aggressive than girls
- could be due to TESTOSTERONE levels =linked to aggression
explain the bobo doll experiment
6 steps
-36 m+f pp’s from 40-70 months
-1m and 1f acted as models
-8 experimental groups
-half observed mans aggression the other half, the woman’s
-then divided into gender groups girls watched the woman
-models hit doll and abused it
then kids taken to room with same doll
what were the finding from the bobo doll experiment?
- children who observed aggressive behaviour acted aggressive
- more aggressive boys than girls
- greater level of imitation when model was same gender
- control group saw adult playing non aggressively and aggression was almost non existent
