2
Q

stages in observational learning

A

behaviour is modelled by a role model, observer identifies with role model, behaviour is observed and noted, behaviour is imitated and learnt

when a person knows their own ability to do something- be likely to copy behaviour

Q

what is attention

A

attention must be paid or a behaviour will not be learnt eg if similar to themselves or significant

Q

what is motivation

A

reward=reproduction, vicarious learning seeing others being rewarded for learnt behaviour (vicarious punishment, extinction or reinforcement)

Q

evidence in support peec

A

from highly reliable research eg bandura 1961 children went through all the same procedure inc observing an aggressive model who followed the same script of hitting a boob doll in the face

Q

methodology peec

A

supporting studies are lab based which increase internal validity due to controls used so cause and effect links can be studied eg in 1961 and 1963 ensured ppt were matched on aggression levels so it did not cofound measures of aggression learnt. increasing credibility of the theory
however, ecological validity may be low as research was experimental and lab based so cannot be sure findings generalise to real life as aggression observed may not be natural eg bobo doll used a target for aggression and seeing a bobo doll being punished isnt the same as a child seeing aggression in their homes

Q

applications of slt

A

it can explain how human learn real life aggressive behaviour and can be used to help create treatments eg modelling therapies which involve learning alternatives to aggressive behaviour through observing and imitating a positive role model.

Q

alternatives to slt

A

overlooks behaviour being influenced by bio factors eg due to the role of the brain structure like amygdala in aggressive behaviours
