practical Flashcards
what is event sampling
recording behaviour every time specific event occurs to target individual/group
behaviour recorded must be decided beforehand hard to observe if in a large area
what is time sampling
recording target behaviours for a set lengths of time
reduces time taken- so less fatigue so higher accuracy but may miss some behaviour
aim
aim of our naturalistic observation is to investigate differences in safe behaviour following highway code checklist of safe behaviours of adults w.w/o children while crossing the road at a set of traffic lights
alternate hypothesis
there will be a significant difference in road crossing behaviours safe and unsafe between parents w children and w/o9 operationalised by the highway codde
sample
13 adults without kids, 6 with , oppotunity sample, covert observation, students from college white , primary school kids
procedure
sat on a bench near a set of traffic lights with materials eg pack and pens, using continuous sampling for any behaviour that occurs and event sampling record safe/un behaviour and w tallied it
analysed event sampling with chi square and thematic for continuous
results
observed value at 5.736 is higher than critical value of 3.84 when the df is 1 and 0.005 level of sig for a one tailed test so results were sig
thematic analysis results
adults with children- modelling safe behaviour eg praising , holding hands
adults without children unsafe behaviour
strengths
high inter-rater reliability decided from more than 1 observer
high eco valid- natural envi
weaknesses
low generalisability , low validity human observers objectivity
