Social Learning Theory Flashcards
Assumptions
Behaviour is learnt from experience
Learnt through imitation and observation
Learning can occur directly & indirectly
Imitation only occurs if the behaviour is rewarded (reinforced)

Imitation
Models
Someone who is influential on an individual
Modelling
When a person imitates the behaviour of the model
Identification
When an individual is influenced by another person because they wish to be/act like them
Andsager et al. (2006)
Imitation
When a person observes a behaviour from a model & copies it
Vicarious reinforcement
Learning that occurs through observing the consequences of a model’s actions in terms of reward & punishment
Mediational processes
Attention- extent to which we notice behaviours
Retention- how well the behaviours is remembered
Motor reproduction- ability of the observer to perform the behaviour
Motivation- will to perform the behaviour, which is often determined by whether the behaviour was rewarded or punished
Motivation
