Social Learning Theory Flashcards
What’s social learning theory?
The theory of learning behaviour which proposes that new behaviors can be acquired by observing and imitating others
What’s imitation?
When a behaviour is observed and repeated
What’s vicarious reinforcement?
If an observed behaviour is rewarded, we are more likely to reproduce the behaviour
What’s vicarious punishment?
Where we are less likely to replicate an action if it observed negative consequences
What’s modelling?
When others act as blueprints for our behaviour - can be real people or symbolic models
What’s identification?
When we observe models that have characteristics we relate to, and therefore are more likely to imitate
What are the meditational processes?
- Attention
- Retention
- Motivation
- Reproduction
What’s Bandura’s Bobo Experiment?
The experiment involved exposing children to two different adult models; an aggressive model and a non-aggressive one. After witnessing the adult’s behavior, the children would then be placed in a room without the model and were observed to see if they would imitate the behaviors they had witnessed earlier.
How many 3-5 year olds were used in Bandura’s experiment?
