Social Learning Theory Flashcards
+ Individual differences
The theory allows for individual differences (e.g. self-efficacy) - supports theory, as it makes the theory less reductionist than other explanations of learning (classical + operant conditioning)
- Simplification
The theory simplifies behaviour into four stages: attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation - refutes theory by suggesting it to be a reductionist view of learning
+ Bandura
The theory is based on the research evidence of Bandura, which suggests children observe adult models being aggressive and imitate this aggression - supports theory back validating it with supporting research evidence
- ‘Nurture’
The theory only concerns ‘nurture’ (the environment) - refutes theory by suggesting it is reductionist as it ignores biological influences and predispositions with regards to learning
