Classical Conditioning Flashcards
Experiment repeated
Pavlov repeated his experiment many times and found similar results each time - supports by suggesting results are highly reliable
Scientific theory
Pavlov’s theory is scientific because it is based on empirical (observed) evidence carried out by controlled experiments - supports theory by suggesting it has scientific rigour
Simplified behaviour
Pavlov simplified behaviour into stimulus and response - refutes theory in suggesting it to be reductionist as in reality, learning is likely far more complex
Brain activity not measurable
Pavlov was unable to measure brain activity in any direct way and had to assume what was happening in the cerebral cortex - refutes theory in suggesting it to be based largely in assumption rather than steadfast scientific evidence - not an objective measure as it assumes signalisation
