Social learning theory Flashcards
Assumptions
- Behaviour is learned from experience
- People learn from observation and imitation
- Learning through operant and classical conditioning
SLT
A way of explaining behavior that includes both direct and indirect reinforcement, combining behaviorist and cognitive factors.
Imitation
Copying behaviours
Identification
Observer associates themselves with the role model
Modeling
Observers perspective- Imitating behavior
Role model perspective- Demonstration of behaviour
Vicarious reinforcement
Reinforcement which is not directly experienced but occurs through observing someone else being reinforced.
Mediational processes
Cognitive factors that influence learning and come between stimulus and response
The role of mental processes
A- attention - whether you notice behaviors
R- Retention- How well behavior is remembered
R- Reproduction- The ability of the observer to perform the behavior
M- Motivation- The will to perform the behavior, often determined by whether behaviour is reinforced.
Bandura
Bobo doll- imitation
