Behaviourist approach Flashcards
Classical conditioning
Learning by association. 2 stimuli are repeatedly paired together
Operant conditioning
Learning where behaviour is shaped by consequences.
Reinforcement
A consequence of behavior that increases the likelihood of that behavior being repeated, uses encouragement
Punishment
A consequence that follows an operant response that decreases the likelihood of that behavior repeating
Unconditioned stimulus
The item/ stimulus which causes an automatic response
Unconditioned response
Unlearned response to UCS
Neutral stimulus
Item/ situation which does not cause any response
Conditioned stimulus
NS becomes associated and elicits the original response
Conditioned response
An automatic response to what originally was the NS
Positive reinforcement
When a desirable behaviour produces and consequence that is pleasant
Negative reinforcement
Removal of an unpleasant stimulus following a desired bahaviour
Positive punishment
Add unpleasant stimuli
Negative punishment
Take away pleasant stimuli
