What is social justice?
Refers to the rights all people in our world to be considered in a fairly and equitable manner.
What are the four principles?
Access and equity, diversity and supportive environments.
What are the 5 A’s of ACCESS?
Affordability, accessibility, adaptability, availability and acceptability.
What is availability?
The hours of operation and how long the waiting list is. Materials supported are essential.
What is affordability?
The cost (financially, time, commitment) of the program within reach to everyone.
What is accessibility?
Whether the individual is able to attend or not from a series of factors such as geographical location, adequate transport, language translator materials.
What is adaptability?
How flexible the service is to modification in order to be accessed within everyone’s reach.
What is acceptability?
Whether the service and/or product adheres to the client’s standards or beliefs.
What is diversity?
Neighborhoods, student bodies or towns with members with identifiable backgrounds and beliefs.
How does discrimination relate to diversity?
Because failure to recognize diversity is discrimination because it is a violation of human rights as it compromises other people’s enjoyment.
What are the 4 aspects of supportive environments?
Economic, social , political dimensions and need to recognize women’s skill and knowledge.
