What are the effects of stress (PIES)?
P - body tension, increased heartbeat, increased breathing rate, the tension in muscles, sweaty hands, dry mouth
* long term: high blood pressure; loss of appetite; sleeplessness; digestive problems and ulcer; heart disease
I - distraction and losing concentration, difficulty in making decisions
E- being upset and unhappy; feeling insecure; negative self-concept
S- finding it harder to mix with others, break down in a close relationship, loss of confidence, social isolation
What are the effects of being unwilling to go to a service?
P - illness or condition may worsen or become life-threatening
I- They may not understand how to cope
E- They may become worried
S- they may be too ill to see friends

P= good housing conditions, healthy diet, good health
I= more leisure time for intellectual activities further education so they mentally stimulated, less stressed, good quality of education for children
E= feeling of security, positive self-concept, allows you to meet with friends and family more often
S= opportunities for socialising with colleagues, afford nice things
What are the effects of limited financial resources?
P= low wages means bad diet and housing, leading to poor health. Muscular jobs can cause muscular and skeletal problems. Desk jobs lead to less activity and weight gain
I= working long hours to improve financially results in less leisure time and reduced learning opportunities ; being unemployment can result in poor mental health
E=financial worries can result in stress and breakdown of relationships; unemployment or low-status work can lead to low self-concept
S= lack of financial resources reduces opportunities for socialising; unemployment reduces opportunities for relationships leading to social isolation
Negative effects of pollutants?
- During pregnancy = low birth weight or premature birth
- Heart damage = heart disease, stroke
- Lung damage - asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer
