Social information Processing Model Flashcards
SIP model
Tries to interpret findings of various studies, providing framework to understand the cognitive bias in loneliness
Encoding of cues
Lonely’s have implicit hypervigilance towards social threats: initial broad attention, used to constantly scan environment, later narrowing, attention toward threatening stimuli
Attention
Examined using eye tracking, focus on gaze longer than 100ms.
Lonely’s fixate earlier on social threat and later avoid these. However, children have the opposite, trouble disengaging from it.
This is only in clips not photo’s, BUT with EEG the response is faster for lonely’s
Emotion recognition
Threatening stimuli are expected to be recognized w increased accuracy and sensitivity by lonely’s. Is only the case for neg emotions, but studies used combined scores.
Attributions
Intent:
- Lonely increased hostile intentions
- Hostile attributions are specific to ambiguous events
Causality;
- Studies differentiate between attributing stability, locus of control and controllability
- Increased attr to uncontrollable
positive social events was related to more unstable, external and uncontrollable
