What is International Social Influence

A

A cognitive process because it is to do with what you think. ISI is an explanation of conformity that says we agree with the opinion of the majority bc we believe it is correct.

We accept it bc we want to be correct as well. We change both our private & public behaviours/views to be consistent w the majority

ISI explains why internalisation happens

eg. In a crisis situation we may use ISI

What is Normative Social Influence

A

An emotional process rather than a cognitive one. NSI is an explanation of conformity that says we agree w the opinion of the majority bc we want to be accepted, gain social approval & be liked. Ppl do not like to appear foolish.

The person may publicly change their behaviour/view but privately disagree.
