Social influence - Evaluation Flashcards
Nemeth (1986)
-Mock jury discussing compensation for a victim of a ski-lift accident
-CFD in each condition
1) Argued for a low rate, was rigid
2) Argued for a low rate, but was more willing to compromise with a slightly higher amount, was flexible
-The rigid CFD had little to no effect on the majority, whereas the flexible CFD made the majority more likely to change their view
-Supports flexibility, but, does question consistency
Moscovici (1969)
-36 blue slides, all female participants
-Ps more likely to call the slides ‘green’ if CFDs consistently did so (8.4%), than in the inconsistent condition (1.25%)
-Highlights the importance of consistency, but can the findings be generalised? (gynocentric)
