A

occurs when we look to the majority group for information as we are unsure about the way to behave. A person will conform because they genuinely believe the majority to be right

what was the asch paradigm

A
  • 123 male university students took part in a vision test that consisted of a line task
  • this experiment measured the extent to which social pressure could make an individual conform
  • a naïve person was placed in a room with 7 confederates
  • 32% of the trials demonstrated conformity, 75% of the 123 participants conformed at least once

lacks temperal validity
lacks ecological validity - conducting in uni
