organs that produce and excrete hormones
what are hormones
chemical messengers that alter the way the body functions
what is the role of the hypothalamus?
stimulates and regulates function of pituitary gland and the rest of the hormones, regulates hormonal control in the body
what is the role of the pituitary gland?
activates other glands
what hormones do the anterior lobes secrete?
FSH, LH and TSH
what hormones do the posterior lobes secrete?
oxytocin and ADH
what do the posterior lobes do?
it stores hormones made in the hypothalamus and releases them
what does the pineal gland do?
it produces melatonin for sleep regulation
what does the pancreas do?
produces insulin and glucagon
what do the adrenal glands do?
produce adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol (stress response) - fight or flight (immediate response)
what does the placenta do?
produces progesterone
what does the thymus do?
produces thymosin - healthy immune system development especially during puberty
what do the ovaries produce?
oestrogen and progesterone
what do the testes produce?
produce testosterone
