What is the definition of conformity
Changing behaviour, thoughts and feelings in a response to a group norm (aka majority influence)
What is the definition of compliance
Where an individual changes their public behaviour but not private believes to fit in with a majority
What is the definition of identification
Temporarily taking on the public behaviours and private beliefs of the majority group, whilst with the group
What is the definition of internalisation
Permanently changing public behaviour and private beliefs to a set of group norms
What is the definition of informational social influence
The result of a desire to be right - it looks to others for guidance in order to gain evidence about reality
What is the definition of normative social influence
An individual conforms to the expectations of the majority in order to gain approval and avoid social disapproval (to fit in)
