Publicly conforming but privately disagreeing.
To avoid social disapproval or to gain social approval.
Identification
Both privately and publically conforming but only when with the group.
Internalisation
Genuinely conforming internally and externally.

Variables Affecting Conformity

Group size
Conformity increases as the size of the majority group increases, but only up to a certain point.
Unanimity
If there is one dissenter, conformity decreases significantly.
Task difficulty
Conformity increases when the task is difficult or ambiguous.
