A

How can peer pressure affect social development?

A

It can help your child develop the coping skills necessary for adulthood. Peer pressure might encourage teens to become more active in athletics or to avoid risky behaviors. Or it could lead them to try alcohol or drugs, skip school or engage in other negative behaviours.

A

Giving them task to do by themselves e.g. dressing, school, clubs, let them make mistakes and try new experiences, getting a job, earning money, college, university, moving away from home, paying bills, moving house, having a family, changing jobs, looking after a parent, retirement, living alone, choosing where to live.

A

A

How do major life events affect development?

A

Effects on development can be both positive and negative. Positive builds resilience, self concept and ability to cope with other events. Negative diminishes self concept, can cause physical and mental harm, stress and depression.

What is the Holmes-Rahe social readjustment rating scale?

A

it identifies a person life change units to work out percentage chance of suffering from stress. There are 43 stressful life events awarded a life change unit depending on how traumatic it was felt to be. A total value for stressful life events can be worked out by adding up the scores over a 12 month period.
