as society became more modern, people could hide behind a screen to commit crime using the internet e.g. revenge porn, identity fraud

Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015 - revenge porn became illegal
Voyeurism Act 2019 - up skirting made illegal
Both result in up to 2 years in prison
what is the impact of policy change in technology?
means that people who are victims of cybercrime can now charge the offender, to ensure they don’t do it again as cybercrime can have a big impact on someone’s life
what technological crime is criminal but not considered deviant?
downloading music or movies illegally as it doesn’t harm anyone
why was policy changed for racism?
societies norms and values changed in the perception of ethnic minorities, people saw the need for equality between races
what policy came about due to racism?
Race Relations Act 1965 - illegal to discriminate due to race in public places
Race Relations Act 1968 - made it illegal to discriminate races from housing or employment
MacPherson report 1999 [ found institutional racism within the police led to introduction of more BAME officers
what was the impact of policy change from racism?
allowed us to have a safer more diverse society
however can still see discrepancies in treatment between races
why was there policy change for homosexuality?
needed people to be themselves without fear of judgement or discrimination
society has become more secular

Wolfenden report 1957 - laws should not include personal matters (someone’s sexuality) after the scandal of Oscar Wilde
1967 - homosexuality decriminalised and age of consent 21
2000- parity (equal) in age of consent of 166
The Marriage (same-sex) Act 2014 - homosexual couples allowed to marry
what was the impact of policy change in homosexuality?
society has become safer for homosexual people
must remember that not every society is like this and even though laws have changed people still have old fashioned views
