What are macronutrients?
Macronutrients are the types of food that you need large amounts in your diet: carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
What is a complex carbohydrate and what are the natural food that provide energy
Complex carbohydrates (starch) are found in natural foods, such as bannas, brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta, nuts and potatoes. Foods of this type help to provide energy for exercise and should form about half of your daily intake.
What are simple sugars and what are the refined and natural form of food?
Simple carbohydrates (sugars) are found in their natural form in fruit and veg. In their refined form in biscuits and cakes.
Fats
Fats are important because they provide energy and, together with glycogen, help muscles to work. Fats are found in butter, margarine and cooking oils. They can also be found in foods such as bacon, cheese, oily fish and nuts. The daily intake of fats to provide energy should br about 30 per cent or the total diet.
