What is compliance?

A
  • Compliance is the most superficial type of conformity
  • You publicaly conform to the behaviour and opinions of the others to be accepted by the group
  • But privately you keep your own view or behaviour (when there is no group pressure)

What is identification?

A
  • This is an intermdiate level of conformity and results in a temporary change in belief
  • You take on the behaviour and views of the group both publicaly and privately
  • However, when you leave that group, you adopt new behaviours and views

What is internalisation?

A
  • The deepest level of conformity and results in a permanent change in belief
  • You take on the behaviour and views of the group both publically and privately, and when you leave the group these views and behaviours still remain with you

A
  • NSI is when you agree with the majority because you want to be accepted and/or do not want to be rejected
  • This could lead to compliance
