Smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM), also called asymptomatic multiple myeloma, is an intermediate stage between MGUS and symptomatic multiple myeloma.

Diagnosis of Smoldering myeloma

●Serum monoclonal protein ≥30g/L and/or ≥10 to <60 percent bone marrow clonal plasma cells
●Absence of lytic lesions, anemia, hypercalcemia, and renal insufficiency (end-organ damage) attributable to the underlying plasma cell proliferation

Management of smoldering Myeloma

Among patients with SMM, we recommend close follow-up with deferral of chemotherapy until progression to symptomatic disease.
