As with MM, AL (amyloid light chain) amyloidosis (previously referred to as primary amyloidosis) and light chain deposition disease are plasma cell proliferative disorders associated with the overproduction of monoclonal light chains. However, patients with primary amyloidosis or light chain deposition disease develop tissue deposits of amyloid fibrils or non-fibrillar material that can produce the nephrotic syndrome, heart failure, hepatomegaly, and other findings that are not seen in MM.
