Smart_Operations Flashcards

1
Q

What is Operations and what are the dimensions of digital technologies?

A

Operations: repetitieve activities that are done in the process of a company.
Dimension 1. tools that facilitate the repetision of automation of the work
Dimension 2. Those that use algorithms to execute the work in more intelligent way.

Q

What does digital operations means?, and how does the companies should start with it?–what are the digital levels in a company

A

Means that the sequence of activities of a company is digital supported. the company should start with the digitation of the process flow.

Q

What are the digital levels, explain them?

A

1.Siloed Application. Like excel file, problem, you cannot actualize it and the operator can’t give feedback and can’“t communicate with other app
2. Enterprise data platform. the companies sent all his data and workflow to a enterprise platform of databank (kind of internet). Each company has access to this databank. The databank is constantly synchronized.
3.Internet-web-based platform. The platform or databank can be accesed (remote assistance and connectivity with other apps) operator can always online.
4. Cloud-based platform. The platform becomes more scalable think on Google Cloud
5. Connected devices/mobile/wearable. visualation of realtime data comming from physical devices IioT IMPORTANT IoP at this level the operator can also gives feedback.

Q

What are the Cyber Physical Systems.

A

Are a kind of digital twins that helps companies in doing predictive maintenance and diagnostics. The main advantage is that the operator can interact with the twin on real time, so you have both, Iot and IoP

Q

What are Digital Operations. Does digital operations means that the work is automated? and Does automation necessarily involves autonomy?

A

There are operations that facilitatie the automation of work. The work is going to be performed by the machine (robot of bot) instead of a human.
No, we can do operations online but the input has come from a human.
No. machines can work autmated but still requiring a supervisor.

Q

What is the difference between automation and autonomy

A

this has to do with the role and location of control rules, autonomy uses algorithms, how and when a task should be performd

Q

What are the four levels of Automation and Autonomy according to the taxonomy of the Society of Automotive Engineers,

A

0. No automation (no machine or bot)
**1. Automation with human control/supervision. **The machine can fully automated operates but a person has to control it.
**2. Automation with conditional autonomous control. **. A machine can run autonomously but when a decission is need to be taken it must be through a human.
3.Automation with autonomous control in certain environments Depending on the kind of action of process that the machine is doing sometimes it can takes its own decissions.
4.Automation with full autonomy, a example is a AGV

Q

What are the Smart Operations?

A

The smart operations are the Digital Operations that can improve the intelligence of a the control rule (feedback and use of algorithms). So the control rule can adapt or regulate.
Condition-based preventive maintenance is smart DIFFERENT to Preventive maintenance on a set schedule, by contrast, is not smart because it does not use any adaptive
feedback control .

Q

What are the Smart Levels (smart control)

A

Systems that are fully automated and autonomous, through the use of algorithms (control-feedback) in order to operate and follow a sequence In level 1 and 2 are only If-then-else instructions
3. Machine Learning The inputs from the sensors become too many, there more many conditions/instructions than if-else, it decissions rely on patterns and inferrences

Q

How does machine learning works, what is DEEP LEARNING

A

The decissions of the system/machine relies on machine learning, **PREDICTION EVENTS. **The predictions are based on training data (human behaiviour-sates and features).
Deep learning: machine learning can utilize a neural network with multiple layers between input and output, which mirrors the human brain. This process is known as deep learning and is the basis of many image recognition systems.

Q

What is artificial intelligence

A

Machine learning can also prescribe actions
One branch of machine learning thus uses and refines
an approximate (value) function from which the system can derive a recommended action for any state.
This mathematical approach yields a machine learning algorithm that makes its own decisions and hence
is described as artificial intelligence

Q

How to adapt machine learning, what are the requirements?

A
  1. Requires (1) a large training data set through which the system can estimate, fit, or tune the algorithm and (2) **data for the actual prediction. Electric car manufacturer Tesla also uses (3) feedback **from drivers to improve the prediction accuracy.

Q

DAS Framework for digital operations.

Explain the framework for future directions

A

For simple automation that does not require autonomy, the DAS framework can be summarized by the 2 x 2 matrix in Figure 1.

Q

What are the operation Improvement Sequence

A

1.First, before digitizing or automating, streamline, standardize, and optimize your workflows, or you may end up automating waste
2.Second, focus on data quality and quantity.
3.Third, prepare your organization for a data-driven culture which augments human work.
4.Fourth, invest in new human capabilities: knowledge and skills
