What are the parts of the small intestine?
Duodenum, Jejunum and Ileum
What does the villus absorb?
NaCl, monosaccharides, amino acids, peptides, fats, vitamins, minerals and water
What do Crypt cells do?
Secrete Cl and H20
How much fluid does the small intestine secrete per day and where does it secrete from?
1500ml, epithelial cells lining the Crypts of Lieberkuhn
Why is water secretion important for normal digestion?
1) maintains lumenal contents in a liquid state
2) promotes ,mixing of nutrients with digestive enzymes
3) aids nutrient presentation to absorbing surface
4) dilutes and washes away hazardous substances
What types of movement are involved in intestinal motility?
Segmentation and Peristalsis
