Pancreas Flashcards
What are the 3 parts of the pancreas?
Head(C shape), body and tail.
Which kind of cells are in the endocrine portion of the pancreas?
Islets of langerhans
Which kind of cells are in the exocrine portion of the pancreas?
Acinar cell lobules.
What is the function of the accessory pancreatic duct?
When there is blockage (i.e. gall bladder stones) can be used.
What is the function of the exocrine pancreas?
Secretion of bicarbonate by duct cells.
Secretion of digestive enzymes by acinar cells.
How are digestive enzymes stored in the pancreas?
Stored as inactive zymogen cells to prevent autodigestion.
What enzyme converts all zymogens to their active form?
Tripsin
What stimulates bicarbonate secretion?
Secretin
Acid in the duodenum promotes the secretion of what?
Secretin
What stimulates zymogen secretion?
CCK (cholecystkinin)
CCK releases in response to what?
To fat and amino acid in the duodenum.
