Why do we need to be tight in SB in MW pots?
Out of position is hard to realise equity.
Mediocre hands eg J♥ 7♥ is easily dominated and has marginal playability. Even if we catch a decent flop, like K♠ 7♦ 2♥, we will often have to fold when facing aggression and players behind.
We could be squeezed by the BB knowing our range is capped or BB may actually 3bet with a very strong hand.
Why should we only 3bet or fold vs LP?
3betting gives SB a chance to win pot preflop. It reduces the average number of players in the hand. It prevents BB from squeezing against wide LP opens.
Our 3betting range from the small blind needs to be tight, as continuing with only strong hands drastically minimizes the difficulty of playing out of position. Trying to play a wide range of hands with a positional disadvantage is a recipe for losing sessions.
