A villain has already limped. What factors do you consider?

A

Limpers’ range - are they tricky or straightforward. Straightforward Villains limp hands too weak to raise. Tricky Vs limps premium & bluffs eg A5s.
Limpers’ position - more likely to be straightforward if limping in LP as fewer Vs who can raise. Opener wants to ensure getting value from premium hands by raising.

When to raise or limp behind a tricky limper

A

Limp behind with hands that flop well, eg SCs, small pairs, A5s.

Raise with hands that do not flop well.

When you get limp/3-bet, fold unless you are getting the correct implied odds.

Raising for value with the intention of folding if 3-bet is fine if their range contains many marginal hands.

When to raise or limp behind a straightforward Limper

A
  • These players usually have junky ranges that do not contain the best hands.
  • Raise them with a range similar to your initial preflop raising range.

You may be able to raise even wider against some players, especially from late position, because their limping ranges will be incredibly weak.

Q

Facing Multiple Limpers - factors to consider & how to playing, eg bet size and bluffs.

A
  • Is the first limper tricky or straightforward?
  • In general, play a bit tighter than you normally would, unless all the limpers are likely weak.

Raising to large amounts may be justified.

Bluffing is still viable, especially if you expect to have a lot of fold equity.
