Poker Flashcards
What is my turn checklist?
- R Adv - more equity with a flush or straight draw?
- Streets of value
- Do we have SDV?
- Opp likely to call turn & river?
- Discount opp hitting flush if opp didn’t cbet flop.
- Do I need to balance, ie bet the turn when I pair a high card balances the time I bluff that high card to fold out opp’s middle pairs.
- Do I block unpaired hands that would fold to a turn bet, eg Ace high on Q J 3 7
What is the SB strategy vs RFI?
3bet or fold vs CO or BUT
Calling most broadway vs LJ & HJ
Almost no offsuit hands vs any RFI
3bet bluffs vs LJ & HJ is broadly AJo A5s & 76s
Cbet strategy?
Protect your checking range. OOP - move AA & some TPGK into check range. Fewer value cbets = fewer bluff cbets. Cbet just the strongest draws. C/c all AKs-AJs missed w BDFDs. C/c other AK. Some c/f with AQ C/f all AJ.
🔥 will worse hands call?
- Mistake propensity. If check will opp bluff?
- Is V LAG or TAG or calling station?
- If V is OOP V is likely to fold more.
👍Range advantage? +57% equity. SB & LP callers will likely have decent ranges. BB's range is likely to be very wide. If yes, bet small and frequently. If no, bet big and seldom by splitting your range into 4 categories: -premium-hands to bet, -drawing hands to bet, -marginal made hands to check, and -junk hands-to-fold.
👍IMO SDV - how likely can it be realised
👍Nut advantage?
Bet bigger with nut advantage to pressure weaker range and to get worse TPs to call
👍Position?
OOP check more often because IP gets to control the size of the pot. Must strengthen checking range OOP vs good opp. Try betting 30% (premiums and draws), check-calling 40% (TPGK to weak pairs above low card) and check-folding 30%.
Mixing c/c and c/f some high cards that missed, eg AJ-AKT
👍BDs to DB?
Cbet if you can turn a flush draw or straight draw.
👍Streets of value?
2 pair+ is worth 3 streets of value. TPTK is worth 3 streets if vs calling station.
👍How vulnerable is my hand?
Cbet (IP?) if pair vulnerable to overcards Eg TT on Jxx vulnerable to QKA.
👍Delay cbet when value hand is 2 streets and not vulnerable.
Eg As2s on Ad8c3hT Check as WA of range of hands that opp will fold to flop cbet and strengthens checking range.
👍Extra reasons to check strong but not brill hands:
- induce bluffs if opp will frequently try to bluff you off hand.
- induce action from worse hands in future if opp will assume you don’t have top pair if you check. They may bet or call hands they would have folded-to a cbet.
- if you will be confused about whether to continue if you are raised.
River checklist
- Any draws complete?
- How many draws still missed?
- Is opp likely to bluff missed draws?
- Could we be chopping?
How much will opp’s most likely 2nd best hand call?
Eg AA on K6555, if opp has called flop & turn it’s v likely he has a king and now. Inelastic to any river bet
Size it so marginal made hands consider folding, but bet loses minimum when vs the nuts.
OOP cbet strategy
- R&Nadv = bet less freq but bet big dep on how opp hit flop.
- Radv = bet small & even less freq
- No Radv = Check even more.
CBet vulnerable pairs Inc TPTK Eg A8 on 832
CBet bluff overcards up to QJ & draws
CR AA KK and sets
CR bluff hands with BDs or Kx
C/C all pairs below TPGK
C/C Ace highs with BD
Check-fold Ax with no BD
My cbets are vulnerable pairs, draws and overcards. IMO Not particularly strong & can be attacked so mix in a small % of cbets with premium hands which is what GTO strategy does.
Set mining odds rule
We need to get at least 20:1 pot odds on our call.
If V bets 6c V’s stack needs to be min $1.20 (20×6c)
If we bet 6c & V 3bets 18c, V’s stack needs to be $2.40 (20×12c).
Of course our stack needs to match V’s stack.
4bet sizes?
For simplicity
IP 4bet 2.5x last bet
OOP 4bet 3× last bet
Small Blind bet size vs BB?
3.5-4x raise SB vs BB
Cbet size in 3bet pot
1/3PSB
Cbet size in 4bet pot
1/4PSB
