SLT Flashcards
1
Q
vicarious reinforcement
A
children observe others’ behaviour and take note of consequences, behaviour seen to be rewarded (reinforced) is more likely to be copied = vicarious reinforcement
2
Q
mediational (cognitive) processes
A
- attention - whether behaviour is noticed
- retention - whether behaviour is remembered
- motor reproduction - being able to do it
- motivation - will to perform the behaviour
3
Q
identification
A
with role models - more likely to imitate behaviour of those with whom they identify
4
Q
Bandura et al (1961)
A
children watched either: adult aggressive towards bob doll or non-aggressively
when given own doll children who’d seen aggressive adult more aggressive towards it
5
Q
strengths
A
- emphasises importance of cognitive factors - unlike conditioning, humans store info about behaviour and use this to make judgements about when it is appropriate to perform them
- real world application e.g media, gender roles
6
Q
weaknesses
A
- recent research shows observational learning is controlled by mirror neurons, so not enough reference to bio factors
- evidence relies on contrived lab studies - Bandura - risk of demand characteristics
