Drug use

Drug
A substance that alters the structure or function of an organism via its chemical nature
Psychoactive drug
A drug that specifically affects thoughts, emotions or behaviour
Drugs are grouped in different ways:
1.) Chemical family
2.) Legality
3.) Perceived risk
4.) Intended use
5.) Effects
Drug misuse
Used in greater amounts than prescribed or for purposes other than the intended use
Drug abuse
Used in a manner or amount or in situations such that it causes social, occupational, psychological or physical problems
Addiction
A chronic, relapsing condition characterised by compulsive drug seeking and abuse
Substance use disorders
A clinically defines, pathological patterns of behaviours related to substance use; criteria address evidence of:
1.) Impaired control of drug use
2.) Impairment in social functioning as a result of use
3.) Risky use
4.)Pharmacological changes such as tolerance or withdrawal
