Q
Question: What are the two categories of criminal defenses?
A
Answer:
Excuse defenses: The defendant did not have the intent or capacity to be responsible for the crime, such as in cases of ignorance, mental disorder, or intoxication.
Justification defenses: The defendant committed the act but had a valid reason for doing so, such as necessity, duress, self-defense, or entrapment.
