brain increases REM activity up to 50% when it’s been deprived of REM sleep
REM rebound
NON-REM sleep is to RESTORE and rejuvenate the body, while REM is for psychological state (type of therapy)

we ADAPT and sleep when it’s dangerous for us to interact with our environments (based around light) (therapy)
adaptive therapy
5 basic characteristics: intense emotions, content illogical, sensations bizarre, images difficult to remember
dreams
brain is not in state to remember, creating memory only happens when you wake up & think about the dream
dream recall
______ theory: dreams as fulfilled wishes; sexual & aggressive thoughts go to subconscious, resurface in dreams: manifest content, dream images & latent content, psychological meaning of manifest content
