SLEEP ARTICLES Flashcards
What is the role of the Thalamic Reticular nucleus in sleep?
It initiates rapid arousal during NREM sleep. Sleep- wake transition.
What is the connection between the Lateral Hypothalamus and the Thalamic Reticular Nucleus?
Through feed-forward inhibition between the Lateral hypothalamus and the Thalamic Reticular Nucleus, the thalamocortical cells are dis-inhibited. –> inducing a rapig arousal.
What brain region initiates and prolongates REM-sleep from Non-REM-sleep ?
Ventral medulla (Gabaergic pathway)
What is sleepwalking?
The dissociation between body sleep and mind sleep.
Which brain areas are involved in sleepwaling?
Wheras the thalamo-cingulate pathway is activated, other thalamocortical arousal systems are deactivated.
