Freed men from Haiti travelled to the americas and the Caribbean and the word of revolt was passed on so slave revolts erupted across British owned possessions in the Caribbean 1791.

In Jamaica 1792 the colonial assembly resolved to abandon the use of metal collars of shackling slaves together and for the use of mutilation as punishment + in 1793 they increased the militia with 3000 troops

The cost of subduing the revolution was financially inconvenient especially since the crop economies would take time to recover so a practical realisation emerged
